Weight loss by McDonald's. It may sound like a joke, but one woman swears by the golden arches. Merab Morgan, a 35-year-old woman from North Carolina, decided to put Mickey D's to the weight loss test. In less than three months, she lost 33 pounds. Vowing to eat at the fast food giant three times a day, Morgan limited herself to 1,400 calories a day. The first meal of her diet was a sausage burrito and medium diet coke. For the most part, Morgan eats burgers and salads. She only gave into the call of French fries twice over the 90-day period. Another woman from New Hampshire also made every meal a happy one at McDonald’s, limiting herself to 2,000 calories a day. She lost 36 pounds. But the McDonald's Diet is hardly a novel idea. Don Gorske holds the Guinness World Record title for eating the most Big Macs, having gobbled down more than 19,800. Since 1972, he's eaten as many as nine of the burgers a day. But it hasn't affected his waistline. He's six-feet-tall and weighs 180 pounds. His cholesterol is also good. However, that's not the case for everyone who follows the golden arches to lose weight. Super Size Me author Morgan Spurlock devoured McDonald's three times a day for 30 days. By the end of his fast food stint, he had packed on 25 pounds and found his health had seriously deteriorated.

Being the health nut I am,there is no way the Mickey D diet is as effective and healthy as the two people that were on it.In fact, it is a sloppy and unhealthy way to lose weight.

The key is that they LIMITED themselves to a LIMITED number of calories. This reinforces the concept that a calorie is a calorie. It's the numbers that count.

I thought the stories were interesting, however, I do not believe this would be a very healthy way to diet and certainly would not sustain long-term weight loss. I have lost from a size 16 to a size 2 or 3. I owe it all to Weight Watchers. I eat more now than I have ever eaten in my life and am thinner than I have ever been!!! It is definitely what you eat not how much you eat. Weight Watchers teaches you skills to keep they weight off and be successful. I could not say enough good things about Weight Watchers and would highly recommend Weight Watchers as the very best long term weight loss system that I have ever used. I am fifty-nine years old and have five wonderful children. I have been dieting since I was twenty-one and tried many, many diet programs. Weight Watchers is definitely the number one program I have used. If you are serious about losing weight and keeing it off, contact Weight Watchers!!!

I would give it a try! My husband will be coming home from prison in November. I have lived w/ my parents since he was incarcerated. My dear old mom is some cook...3 squares a day! All of them excellent! I am taking full advantage of them all! Since I've been living here I have gained at least 45 to 50 lbs. I really don't want to be fat when he come home. Even though he says he doesn't care a bit! But still I would feel better about my self in general if I could lose that extra weight!

it seems really unusual and really unhealthy! but i suppose that if you were to LIMIT THE INTAKE that it wouldn't be so bad! the reason people wouldn't believe this is not becuase it won't work it's becuase they aren't realizing that these people are LIMITING THEIR INTAKE of the calories in their meals!

As I work at McDonald's I can tell you that I think it is near to impossible to lose that much weight in that time frame. It says that she had a burrito and a diet coke for breakfast....what about lunch and supper?! I know that everyday, I have a Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken (220 cal.)or the Asian Grilled (270 cal.)I don't use salad dressing. Instead I get a whole lemon and squeeze the juice on it. This seems to give the salad a little pop! Watch out for the seeds though! lol

You can lose wait at McDonalds!! For breakfast have either the Sausage Egg McMuffin or the regular Egg McMuffin. The eggs have no yoke and the Muffin is whole grain. For lunch have the bacon ranch salad with grilled chicken and for supper have a double cheeseburger without the cheese, a side salad with low fat vinagrette dressing and a fruit parfait. It works! No cokes, drink water or water with
Crystal Light powder. I have lost 25 pounds in 3 months!

It is not so much about where you eat it is about what you eat and how much. Mc Donalds has foods that are good for you and low in fat too. if you look there is always some thing that is good for you on the menu no matter where you go. You just have to make the commentment to make the healthy choices. Yeas do thow in the other stuff on occasion.

Ok, so where are the details? What specifically did she eat, how often did she eat and how active of a person is she? If she is running a marathon every day, maybe that's why she lost weight.

The McDonald's diet can "work" if the purpose is to take off weight. If a person eats fewer calories than previously consumed, there can be weight loss. McDonald's does offer nutritious choices. Is it a good balance for a lifelong diet? Probably not.

It's the overall life style. While my daughter was in the Army, she told me she lived on McD's and pizza BUT was also doing (ARMY!) PT (physical training) daily..... and lost weight. I agree with an earlier statement: a calorie is a calorie.

I think there is a diet for every one. Mickey D not for me ,but W. W. was not that great as well who likes to get up and let a room full of others know how many pounds you have not lost ... and it been a great week for you and you have no idea why you still didn't drop any thing so I say if you find something that will help you get those last few pounds off and you like the diet and can live with it then go with it.Hope its a good one but some times you have to do what you have to do . just not to long ok.... I my self think its to many cal. and fat but see thats me. it would not work for me. so I would look for something that I like I keep no white suger no white flour or oil in my house ... never eat it in my food.

Yeah,I liked the Church's Fried Chicken Commercial where they had the brothaz grunting and making noises while they ate their fried chicken. If they would've had a watermelon in the Commercial it would've been classic stereotype.I think the key to any diet is exercise. You could eat McDonalds and stay healthy. What about the guy eating 9 Big Macs every day and staying fit?Maybe the noise making helps burn calories.

Yea, it works; if you increadiably overly active. I worked in a road band and that's all we lived on, not only that, sleeplessnights and fast hard heavy lifting movements all the time. if you are in constant motion like we were, yea. As soon as we got off the road on the same Mickey-D. diet we all ballooned to at least 60lbs. Believe it or not.

If anyone wants to see the aftermath of eating McDonald's rent the movie Super Size Me and the guy who made this ate McDonald's for breakfast, lunch and dinner and gained nearly 30 pounds on his 180 pound 6'1 frame. This individual who said she swears by it needs to check the fat content of the burgers they're higher than Burger King because of how they're cooked which is on a hot plate grill instead of flame broiled over an open flame so that the fat drips off the meat instead of laping it up like a sponge and packing weight on you. The oil used for cooking the fish sandwiches, chicken mcnuggets, and fries is not the best because it causes major weight gain, increase in cholesterol levels, and causes acne in most adults and teens. McDonalds burgers don't have very good stuff on it since the onions are chopped instead of whole, no tomatoes, or any lettuce. The big macs are gross and I've never had one and never will covered in thousand island dressing (aka the special sauce). Whoever is thinking they lost weight on the McDonald's diet needs to seriously check the nutrition chart at the restaurant to get an idea of how much fat is in a single big mac. After seeing Super Size Me I got a better outlook on what is healthy to eat at a fast food place and making smart choices in the food items.

The story about the McDonald's diet is interesting, however if you don't have complete nutrition in you diet your body sends craving signals to your brain making it more difficult to stick to lower calorie intake.

I have eaten at McDonald's over a year and I can say I have gained 40 pounds in a year! I can't say it is McDonald's that actually made me bigger! I know lack of exercise and a slower pace job that I have {I am sure} caused alot of my weight gain!

The diet is unhealthy. I don't think they have a doctor that checks them. Bet they do not feel as good as possible. maybe they feel good about their weight loss but they could have a heart attack or stroke any day.

I am a vegetarian and although I can find choices of foods there that I can eat there is no way this plan can be healthy the individuals that lost on it may have good cholesterol levels but I sure would like to see their vascular studies.

ANY Diet can work if you are limiting your calorie intake and excersing. Unfortunately this diet is not sufficient in nutrients that are going to help you keep it off. With this so called diet, multivitamins are an excellent idea, along with plenty of water. I would not recommend anyone trying this diet because of the lack of nutriontal value. It's practically starving your body of everything it needs.

Well, I'm not sure I'd try a diet of hambugers BUT I can tell you that I believe McDonald's Fruit and Walnut Salad is extremely heathly, it has all of the essential foods in it and in proportinate amount. I've eaten this salad every day for the past two years for my breakfast. At least I'm getting fruit (apples), yogurt and walnuts -- all of these have been touted to be very healthy --

I believe that if a person is focused on weight loss, that is what will
happen. Choosing one's diet according to calorie intake will produce
the desired weight. All "fast food" places offer, low calorie,
nutritious food now. Eating primarily protein at McDonalds and elsewhere
will generate weight loss.

While I do like McDonald's food especially the salads, I am not so sure about the diet part. A pweson can lose weight by just limiting the calories no matter whose food they eat. Greasy fried foods are not particularly healthy. Thanks anyway, Rene

I don't care what they say about fast food causing acne, but I break out horriably when I eat at McDonalds! I used to have clear skin and then I started eating at McDonalds like 6 times a week if not more and I got such bad acne that I had to go on accutane, but it came back 3 weeks after stopping accutane! As soon as I stopped McDonands my skin cleared right up! Myth my A!

Okay, calories in,calories out. I think the MD's diet could work.
But what about anatomy & physiology. We need plenty of antixiodants (fruits and veggies) in our diet & less processed foods. A treat to MD's now & then is fine, but daily. C'mon. Yes, they carry salads, but how many times would a salad be purchased over a burger.
Lose weight, great! What about cancer, high blood pressure, cholesterol... A person can be thin, but still be unhealthy. While it's tempting, I'll pass. Anatomy & Physiology!!!

packed in irrecyclable plastic, treated with preservatives...cut out h middleman. just eat grass. chew very thoroughly.

McDonalds gets a bad rap.If you get a McDonalds brochure you can choose foods that are low in fat and calories. Subway advertises their heathy foods but you need to check each Subway meal because many are actually higher in fat & calories than McDonalds. You just have to check ingredients, sodium, fat & calories on everything, then make your choice.

I'm sorry but greasy foods do not cause acne in themselves, if you where eating mcdonalds when you where getting such bad acne it was probably because you where eating the food (burger, chicken nuggets, french fries) with your hands, and probably didn't wash them after, and as you know most people touch their face often throughout the day, even without realzing it, to move or hair, scratch and itch, and all of the oils and grease that were on your hands where then on your face.

Reagarding the Super Size me movie: I would never make any one food an exclusive element of my life. I don't believe that excess of anything, including things that are fabulous for you, is a good way of living. The Super Size me movie was very interesting to watch, and I am not at all a fast food junkie, but when watching that movie I held the grain of salt everyone should when watching ANY movie... for sure eating nothing but one singular menu in life is not likely to be good for you, but if you HAVE seen the movie, don't forget the fact that he ate SUPER SIZE WHENEVER THEY OFFERED IT. Surely this contributed to his excess consumption of calories, fats, and sodium. No wonder then that after a month he was almost at death's door. Take ANTHING to an extreme and you can get the same results.
