When most people think of miracle-working foods, fiber is often the first thing that comes to mind. That's because fiber helps prevents heart disease, cancer, diabetes and a host of other debilitating ailments. It's also beneficial for proper digestion. But that's not all.
Fiber is a key component in promoting weight loss. Not only does it help people feel fuller, it also staves off hunger. In fact, one serving of whole grain bread is more filling than two servings of white bread. Fiber also moves through the digestive system at a faster pace so less of it is absorbed. Many diet experts consider it the magic bullet for shedding those extra pounds.
Now, a new diet is building upon the fabulous foundation that is fiber -- it's the Fiber35 Diet. Created by bestselling author and digestion expert Brenda Watson, the Fiber35 Diet is a program geared to help dieters lose weight while regaining their health by making fiber a staple in the diet.
Anyone interested in following the Fiber35 Diet can buy the book or follow the program online via their website. Watson is also frequently seen touting her program on PBS.
The goal is to consume at least 35 grams of fiber a day. There are simple ways to add a fiber punch to your diet. Among her recommendations -- replace rice, pasta and other products made from white flour with brown rice, whole grain pasta and whole grain or whole wheat flour. Eat more fruit, vegetables and legumes. Sprinkle flax seeds into yogurt, or add black beans or kidney beans to a salad.
