Abs Diet
Published 03/2/2006 | Low Fat , High Fiber | Rating:

Zinczenko recommends 12 groups of foods and says each meal should contain at least two or three of the foods from this list: almonds and other nuts, beans and legumes, spinach and other green vegetables, dairy (fat-free or low-fat milk, yogurt, cheese), Instant oatmeal (unsweetened, unflavored), eggs, turkey and other lean meats, peanut butter, olive oil, whole-grain breads and cereals, extra-protein powder and raspberries and other berries. When following the Abs Diet, you're encouraged to eat three snacks which should contain at least one of the power of 12 foods in each serving.

The Abs Diet emphasizes protein, monounsaturated and polyunsatured fats, fiber and calcium -- all of the elements which  prevent heart disease, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, high blood pressure and other ailments. By chocking your diet full of the Abs Diet recommendations you'll be less likely to feel the overwhelming hunger that often accompanies most weight-loss programs.

There are also plenty of benefits attached to strengthening your abs. You'll improve your sex life, prevent injuries, limit  your aches and pains, and be more robust in any physical activity in which you engage. But eating right is only half of this  two-part plan -- you've got to get physical too.

Zinczenko has also created a total-body strength training workout that  focuses on the larger muscles groups - the chest, back and legs. The workout also calls for light cardiovascular exercises such as walking for 30 to 45 minutes at a brisk pace.

In addition to the book, there is also an online component which allows you to customize the program to your wants, needs and nutritional preferences.

It's very surprising to have 8 meals a day instead of the traditional 3-times meals. The quantity should therefore be reduced to a small snack each time. And I am convinced that walking, swimming and physical exercise helps tremendously the weight of a person.

I appreciate your suggestions. They coincide with my daily diet.Sometimes I cheat: whatever I am trying my best. For my age (57), liking 2 mounts from my birthday (Nov.07/1948) I Think that I am doing better than most; whatever, I am sure things will get better in the near future.

This is an excellent review! I have read most of this book, "The Abs Diet," it is wonderful! I have been following the diet and have lost 77 lbs. to date. This IS NOT A FAD DIET. This guy knows what he is saying. My Dr. was very impressed with the book. You can check it out of the library. It is worth the time. He tells you exactly what you need to do, gives you menus, tells you vital health information and demonstrates the exercises in the book. I really recommend anyone to read it. God bless you! :-)

This is a great review. I have been following this diet for the past 2 yrs and have lost over 100lbs. This article explains it well, if anyone has any questions they should buy the book, or check it out at the local library. The program saved my life! It's easy to do, I'm now at goal weight, and still use these eating principles, my blood sugars are usually in a normal range, and strengthening my abs even helped cure all my back pains! This is the last diet you'll ever try! I call it my live it!

I think you put good information here however you just basically drop things, feed enough info to get interested but, I am not sure I am willing to go further with this because there is not enough info. Sounds good though

Overall, remembering that this is only a review, it was good. What's missing is how to obtain more detailed information about the eating plan as well as the body workout and strength training. Can you provide additional information or a website? I would appreciate it.

    A brief overview of me:
    -
I lost approx 50 lbs just from a strong cardio workout and a change in my eating habits.
It took about 6-7 months to loose this much weight but it worked. Of course there is more to the story but I want to share how I came to the Abs Diet.

    Overview of the Book:
    -
The book is extremely easy to read. I am not much for reading, but lets face it. Most people can only get so far working out on their own. You need a spotter. That is what the Abs Diet is. A great spotter.
By that I mean it definitely educates you on eating the right foods, a good cardio workout and a muscle building workout.
You might say you have to eat healthy to be healthy and somehow everyone should understand this? Not quite, I am a simple person and I need a straight forward diet and the Abs Diet is very simple and straight forward. Just like a spotter telling you "one more rep!" or "widen your stance to get the full benefit of the rep." the Abs Diet is there reinforcing your every move.
It this the best diet in the world? I don't know, but with any lifgestyle change you need motivation. If everyone could find their personal motivation whether it is vanity, self esteem or living longer more and more diets would be successful. Without this motivation a person is just spinning their yo/yo diet wheels.
My motivation is my son and my wife. I have a strong history of heart disese and diabetes in my family. I have the motivation and the Abs Diet gives me the checks and balances that I need to continue my lifestyle change.

Hi, I want to know does that include women that had c-sections ceserians. There are times when I lose weight and lose fat my pouch is still there. Also, I have hyperthyroid so is there a diet that I could use and some kind of enery products that avoid my thyroid to act up?

i went on this thing and it WORKS. and its easy to follow. the only challenge, like everything, is to make the small efforts to be sure you stay on it. and avoidin all that pasta, white bread and sugars out there can be a bit tough. but this is THE MOST SENSIBLE "diet" I have ever seen. very good. no gimmicks, good science, no nonsense. and you can eat.

Have tried dieting on my own and now find this review compelling to start on a whole new way of dieting. I may be 70 but I still want to look good and have the energy I need for I still work and love working. I need the "receipe" to follow for my diet.

I want to reply to Joyce who says she still has a pooch when dieting after having a c-section. I still had a pooch after dieting after having my first child vaginally. Then I had my second child c-section. Two words: Tummy Tuck. No diet or exercise program can get rid of that spare intertube some women get after having children.
