Go cuckoo for coconuts. The Coconut Diet picks up where traditional diets fail.
Once again, it's deemed a way of life, not just a diet. Regarded as a healthy fat, coconut oil is made of medium chain fatty acids, which promote thermogenesis, increasing the body's metabolism and producing energy. In addition to boosting weight loss, these medium chain fatty acids also kill fungus, bacteria and viruses. Among the conditions that the Coconut Diet helps alleviate are thyroid disease, yeast infections, chronic fatigue, high cholesterol and much more. To put it simply, the Coconut Diet replaces trans fat acids and unhealthy polyunsaturated oils with coconut oil. The other cooking oils recommended include virgin Palm Oil, extra virgin olive oil, unrefined sesame oil, and organic grass-fed butter. The Coconut Diet endorses a daily intake of two to four tablespoons of oil a day. The coconut oil can be incorporated into recipes such as homemade coconut milk, smoothies, salad dressings, breads and other nutritionally-sound recipes.
To get the maximum benefits from the Coconut Diet, the brains behind the plan suggest following a low- or reduced-carb eating plan – so the principles of the Coconut Diet can be incorporated into other popular plans like Atkins and South Beach. But buyer beware, there are some consequences to consuming Virgin Coconut Oil. It must be introduced into the body slowly, as there are detoxification effects that occur because of the antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-vial properties of the oil. Common side effects include diarrhea and cramping. For best results, eat the Virgin Coconut Oil with high-fiber, high-protein foods.

The coconut oil sounds like a very good addition for my diet...but, it is very expensive. Right now I use canola and olive oil. Could you tell me where to buy coconut oil that is reasonably priced?

I would not follow a diet that uses only coconut oil because it is mostly saturated fat. Saturated fat should be used sparingly in the diet.

I use Extra Virgin Coconut Oil softgels. You can get them at any health food store. Fairly inexpensive and seems to work just as well. I take 2 with breakfast and 2 with dinner. I do notice a difference when I don't take them.

I did the Coconut Diet in conjunction with the South Beach Diet about two years ago and lost 20 pounds in the course of a month. It was incredibly easy, the fat melted off and I was able to meet my goal weight after about a month and a half. It heightened my energy levels and warded off my usually once a month yeast infections. I have since gained the weight back, and I am now preparing to go back on the same diet. Good luck to all others who are looking to loose weight quickly!!!

My husband and I have been cooking and baking and eating, drinking coconut oil for 1 1/2 years now. Our cholesterol, trigly, are now in excellent amounts...HDL is now 65. My husband's cholesterol and trigly, was all above 600 points. They are now below two hundred now. When cooking with the coconut oils our foods taste so much better. The doctors are amazed that when I had ultrasounds on my neck, the technician said there is no plaque at all that they could find and this is very unusual...there is usually always some plaque. I highly, highly recommend the use of coconut oils in your diet with a lower, selective carbohydrate diet with the required protein needed to feel and move much better in life. I follow the Protein Power Diet from the Dr's. Eades program that is very sensible and safe and correct way to eat healthy. You will love eating with this diet and the coconut oil. IT WORKS!!!

This sounds too good to be true. The best thing I like about the coconut diet is the 'buyer beware' statement. I love coconut. I eat the shreaded coconut by itself all the time. But, I have never heard of or seen Virgin Coconut Oil in the markets. I will look for it though as I have a high cholesterol problem. Thanks for the tip. Rene

The coconut kernel is a tasty snack. Unfortunately it does not hold its tastiness for long once taken out of the shell. It is used to make small cakes (coconut cake), breads, flavour meats, enhance flavour in many other breads, cakes, muffins....
The kernel is grated and washed in water. The water is known as coconut milk which is what is used to flavour foods. Thismilk is left overnight and the cream floats to the top. This is then heated for 15 - 20 mins to form oil. It is that easy. Here in Trinidad it is cheap and easy to find. Sorry I could not e-mail the solids for you to sample.

My understanding is that this is a very common addition to cooking in other countries (could that be why Americans are the fattest people in the world right now? cuz we don't!?!). There are lots of ways to get coconut into your diet (Mounds and ALmond Joy's be damned!) If you use coconut milk in cooking instead of regular milk as well as substituting it for your coffee creamer for instance, Coconut milk is cheaper than the oil but I've had a jar of coconut oil that I bought at Whole Foods that has lasted almost 2 months because it doesn't take much really and I cook with it. Thing is....cow's milk was meant for baby cow's so why are human adults still hooked on it???
