Hamptons Diet
Published 03/3/2006 | Low Carb | Rating:

You can never be too rich or too thin. The Hamptons Diet may not help you with your money problems, but it promises to assist you in your weight-loss endeavors.  Even the average Joe can reap the benefits of this modified low-carb approach to weight loss. The program created by Dr. Fred  Pescatore, MD, a former Atkins disciple, calls for a combination of healthy fats and healthy carbs in moderation.

The Hamptons Diet draws from two longstanding weight-loss approaches: the Atkins Nutritional Approach and the Mediterranean Diet. Combining the best of both worlds, the end result in an eating plan that stresses the importance of whole foods (preferably organic foods) that are minimally processed and contain little sugar alcohols. Meals consist of lean proteins, vegetables, fish, whole grains and nuts.

The philosophy of the Hamptons Diet is simple enough: Eat more vegetables, fish, and omega-3 fatty acids and consume most of your fats in the form of monounsaturates. Similar in nature to the golden child of weight-loss programs, the Mediterranean Diet, The Hamptons Diet expands on those principles. Instead of olive oil, Dr. Pescatore highly praises the benefits of macadamia nut oil, which boasts up to 30 percent more monosaturates than olive oil. Studies show that a diet rich in monosaturated fats encourages weight loss, improves cardiovascular health and is easier to stay on.

The pay off according to Dr. Pescatore: you'll lose up to 14 pounds in two weeks.

This seems like an advertisement, not a review. Which is it?

I'm tired of people telling me that I should eat less carbs and eat Omega blah, blah, blah.

Just give me a list of foods that I'm aloud to eat on a good diet. Just tell me how many calories a day to lose weight. Just tell me a good snack, every time I'm hungry that will fill me up and not be fattening. Life is too complicated!!

Everyone has their opinion but instead of concentrating on a diet GET MOVING. The fast foods and sodas are killing us.

I'm looking for more information than is given in these "teasers". A website would be useful to help someone get started on the many plans you advertise.

For the average person reading these kinds of sites and threads, the information is incredibly vague. Mono is a kissing disease not a fat to me LOL

you never gave us any information to be able to see if it is one of the diets that we could succeed at. no information on the foods/carbs/calories, etc or the amounts of anything - very lacking.

You haven't told me anything that I did not already know,,,,,,,,,one thing you forgot to mention, is that peoples metabolism are different and medicines can lower your metabolism to a point that you will gain weight no matter how strict your diet is.

This sounds like it could work, but again not enough info. The South Beach diet did work for me, but when I stopped, I gained weight. I tried the South Beach diet again and it did not work! I think it would be alot easier to eat Lean Cuisines for breakfast, lunch and supper!

Is it monounsaturates or monosaturates? There is probably a big difference in the two spellings.

The diets that you "advertise" sound great, but there is never enough information. Try giving us some information that we can actually use not just an advetisement.

I see now why it's called the Hampton Diet... the Macadamia nut oil alone is a small fortune!! You'd have to be able to live in the Hamptons to afford it.!!! It's just not practical.

O.K. so if I can"t find any macademia nut oil, would it be o.k. to just eat a box of macadema nut chocolates? Same thing, right? LOL :)

Geez, people, this site is to give you an idea of the diet plans, not a detailed description. If you can't afford to buy the book, look in your library. Or..there are many free websites that will give lists of low carb fare, along with any other diet foods you would like to look up.

These reviews are intended to give us "nutshell" idea of what the diet is about. If you're like me and can't afford to go out and buy the books, check your library. I live in a very small, rural town, but my library has most of the diet books out there, or they can get them in for me. Also, there are a few "diet" websites that are free that can help, too. Don't complain, please, because this site hasn't done all the work for you.

Would it kill you to add maybe a couple days worth of meals and snacks that are needed for this diet to work?? Pretty much, you are telling me what ever other diet web site says. You are not going to get any business from me unless you tell us what you really are about (such as an example of a real meal plan).
