There are also specific guidelines for how many sets to perform, how long to rest, weight load and other factors. In order to achieve maximum results, it's important to adhere to the program as closely as possible. By building more muscle, you'll be increasing your metabolic rate. Therefore, the body will burn more calories even when the body is at rest. As for the nutrition principles, Phillips also weighs in with his suggestions. Eat six meals a day, one every two to three hours. Every meal should have a portion of protein and carbohydrates. Add a serving of vegetables to at least two meals. Watch portion sizes.
Also, be sure to consume one tablespoon of unsaturated oil daily or three portions of salmon a week. Drink at least 10 cups of water a day. To ensure you're getting optimal levels of required nutrients, consume performance-nutrition shake and follow the regimen of dietary supplements.
In addition, Phillips recommends consuming a tablespoon of safflower, flaxseed, sesame or canola oil every day to provide necessary Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acids. The diet breaks down to about 40%-50% protein, the same for carbohydrates, and very little fat.

I find it practical, and I believe it would work if the individual is committed to it.

The information is clear, the requirements doable. All it takes is committment/stick-to-iveness.

I haven't tried the fitness part of this program, but have the nutrition part. The coolest thing about this one is you get one day a week as a free day. You can eat anything you like on that day. I think it makes it much easier to stick with the plan.

Thank you for describing the diet plan that you have just mentioned, I have weighed in at approx. 103-105 lbs. for the years previous to 2003. I was injured on my job and was let go.I have been on Workers Comp. ever since my 1st Surgery on Sept.11,2003, it was a botched job and led to more growths in the knee and physical therapy was terribly painful, then it was diagnosed that the work performed by my Dr. could not be fixed, so, in essence, I had to sustain another surgery on the same knee on Nov.4th,2004,after that I was very weak and unstable and then fractured and tore the same lateral meniscus as well. I was a mess, mentally and physically. The following Nov. 1st, 2005 I ha surgery on my right knee, now both knees are giving me heck, but I am fighting back. I push myself hard and that may be delaying the healing process somewhat, but, after all those surgeries, quitting smoking, and being placed on anti-depressants, my body weight is now up to 160 lbs. I have Never been that weight even when pregnant with bothe of my daughters. The highest I went in weight gain was 119 lbs. I moved to Fl. from St. Louis.Mo. and I did low impact aerobics 45 min. in morning and 45 at night, took my caloric intake down to 2oo calories per day and lost 30 lbs. in one month. also swam and did water aerobics in Fla. every night. It was a wonderful feeling, and now I am so miserable, naturally NOTHING fits at this weight, but, I am now adamant about loosing these unsightly extra tires and cellulite, when for 12 years I had been tseted and had no body fat. Now, I dislike myself and my self esteem is down, no matter how hard I fight it,I just got married 4 months ago, and my husband and I both gained weight. I gained because I couldnt smoke, exercise and was eating the wrong foods, plus my husband doesnt get home until way after the dinner hour and he expects that I eat with him also. I cant.I don't like to call this experience a diet, because inevitably, everyone that goes on a stringent diet, indefinately goes back to the weight they started with and sometimes more. I call it watching what I eat, and do it in moderation, but, also NOT eliminating everything that I like to eat, I just did it in very small portions, and my coke, I only drank 1 a day.Right now I am ready to begin again, knowing that nothing fits this 160lb. boby after 103lbs. I need to do squats and sit-ups and other lower body exercises which are extremely difficult for me since my pain has still Not subsided fron, the torn meniscus' to a fracture to pain radiating up into my back, first the lower lmbar, now all the way up and spreading to my sids and front of the body. If you can help with suggestions, PLEASE do, I m very limited with my knee and back problem, also it has caused an impingement in my right shoulder that needs surgery. Where do I go from her, also I forgot to mention that I have IBS and have had it since I was 8yrs. old, I am now 30 in Dec. and want to lok good and feel goood for myself. Pleae give me some sugggestions.
Graciouly Yours,
Theresa M. Friedman

Went into way too much detail--cut to the chase--you want to lose weight and have some health problems that cause your movements to be limited!

Carolynn K's comment was mean. She should show a little bit of compassion. Believe me, you never know when you might be in a similar situation. It only takes one car that is near you to change your life forever. I think it's great that Theresa is reaching out for help. Maybe Carolynn K should explain why long messages bother her. Is your issue compassion or comprehension?

THIS IS TO THERESA sweetie, I think it's great that you are reaching out and want to be healthy. I used to be overweight, and I hated myself every day. To make matters worse, my mother would make fun of me, and when I lost the weight, she still berated me because she was jealous. But I feel so much better, not only because I look better, but I feel healthier because I am healthier. My advice to you, the Body for Life is a great program, I have done it myself with excellent results. It's not a diet, well, not like that, but it teaches you to eat healthy, but it's good food! Chicken breast baked in olive oil is good. And fruits. Why have cake when you can have fruit, pineapple, pears, grapes etc.. My advice to you is to go into the mall or wherever your closest bookstore is and BUY THE BOOK AND FOLLOW THE PROGRAM. It's not that hard to stick to, once you get into the habit, and there are stories of others with similar situations and even handicapped people and old people who have success on it. Good luck!

Body For Life is a change of life and it really works. It's not that hard to maintain your body once you get it to where you want it. I was putting on a lot of muscle and stopped working with so much weight being a woman I still wanted to keep a little curve in a couple areas but my arms and legs are lean and I have a flat tummy. If you are looking into toning up really fast then this is for you just be aware that you could and will bulk up pretty quick if you follow this exactly!

I went on the Body for Life Program, but only lasted 10 weeks instead of the 12 weeks I had signed up for. But during those 10 weeks, I lost 20 lbs and created muscles I never knew I had. My daughter and her husband said I looked slimmer than any time my son-in-law had known me (I probably was 10 lbs lighter), but the exercise made the difference. I didn't look good enough to really be a competitor in the Body for Life contest, as I was too large to start with, but the results sure made me feel good. Too bad I didn't stick with it, as I gained my weight back plus more. So perhaps I'll give it another try.
