Timing is everything. Created by diet and fitness guru Jorge Cruise, the 3-Hour Diet is as simple as it sounds.
The basic premise is to eat every three hours from the time you wake up. The program calls for three meals, a snack and a treat. According to Jorge, you should eat breakfast within one hour of rising and stop eating three hours before bedtime. In doing so, you'll lose two pounds a week, he promises. Even better, you'll take off that unsightly belly fat first.
If eating around the clock seems unattainable, Jorge points out that it's possible. Take the late riser for example. Their eating schedule would look something like this:
10am: Breakfast 1pm: Lunch* 4pm: Snack 7pm: Dinner 9pm: Treat AND Snack So what do you get to eat? Whatever you want, says Jorge. His motto: there are no bad foods, only bad timing and bad servings. In fact, banning your favorite foods only sets yourself up for failure.
With the 3-Hour Diet, you consume bread, pasta, chocolate and fast food. To support his way of eating, Jorge has created the 3-Hour Plate which should look something like this. Fill half of your plate with vegetables the equivalent of three DVD cases. The bottom half should be filled with protein the size of a deck of cards and carbohydrates equal to a Rubik's Cube. Don't forget to top off your plate with one teaspoon of fat the equivalent of a water bottle cap. Jorge provides suggested guidelines to keep you on the right track.

I started the three hour diet in December of 2005. I started out weighing 288 lbs. I now weigh 190.And because I have Diverticulitis and have had 12 abdomanal surgeries, my ability to excercise is very limited. All of my health problems started in 2002. Now at 190lbs. I consider myself much healther, thanks to Jorge Cruise. And I'm not finished yet!
Thank-You Jorge!!!!

I have never heard of this diet per se, but I have known that it is very wise to have several small meals a day, perhaps three hours apart, rather than overload with three meals or even two meals a day.
I am extremely confused. If you eat "whatever you want", how do you have time or room to fill your stomach with the 3-Hour Plate of food? Does this 3-Hour Plate last you the entire day, so you nibble from its contents every three hours? Do you completely fill the plate with the food described every three hours? If you eat vegetables the equivalent of three DVD cases, do you spend all day cooking? Can these be raw or cooked?
Is this 3-Hour Plate available to buy somewhere? Water bottle caps vary in size. Which size does the diet have in mind? The 1-gallon jugs that have lids that screw on might contain a tablespoon of fat, although most regularly sized lids should contain 1-1.5 teaspoons of fat.
Learning about the "starvation protection mechanism (SPM)" was excellent food for thought. I had heard previously that if one doesn't eat on time and has a headache, it could mean that your brain tissues are being cannibalized. It was also excellent to learn that SPM causes the body to preserve body fat.
I am glad this diet works for some people. I would have to read a great deal more about it, so I could understand precisely how it works. The information provided doesn't prescribe the amount of liquid (hopefully water) that should be consumed. If your body is burning fat, it definitely needs to be cleansed. Would it require more than 64 fluid ounces?

Having just finished reading the description of this 3-Hour Diet, I'm eager to give it a try! How I'd love to lose the belly fat I've toted around for too long. A loss of 2 pounds/week sounds good to me, and the diet plan and desription sounds simple enough to adhere to for 6-7 weeks in order to come down from 140 to 125 pounds. Thanks so much for this advice and....here's hoping!!!

I like his suggestions. Every 3 hours seems about right considering other nutritionists have said to eat smaller meals all through the day or variations on a theme. I was new to the fact of my body preserving fat and it makes a lot of sence. The 3 Hour Plate is just the opposite as what I have been doing! I usually make half the plate the main course and just a quarter of the plate the vegetables. Having him describe the sizes like that helps a lot. I will certainly try this!

It's funny I've come across this artical today. I just determined at the grocery store earlier today that I need to get back on the 3-hr diet. I bought the book and tried the diet over a year ago. The book is very educational, thorough, and practical, I thought. It will answer all of the questions of the previous user review and many more. I not only lost the few exta pounds everyone wants to loose, but more importantly (and the main reason I tried the diet), I FELT a LOT better! It's not been a difficult discipline to maintain either (eating every 3 hrs, watching portion size). I've not done too badly really, until lately. And I can feel it! I'm really surprized how like my "old-self" I feel - bloated, tired and run-down, etc. I highly recommend the 3-hr diet - buy the book!!!! I think it helps to regulate the blood sugar level, and that's what makes me feel less hungry, more energized, more healthy over all! Yes, I determined earlier today that it needs to be a way of life for me.

I decided today I was going to change the way I ate. I also decided that I wanted to decrease my medication. Some of the side effects of my meds. states (weight gain) I feel if I can discontinue some of them and change to the 3 hour diet, that I can shed some unwanted pounds. Thanks for your support

This is a good way to keep track of how often U eat. I know that the true secret to losing weight is eating but out side of grabing a shake I still will forget to eat. Put it in the perspective of every three hours sounds doable I will try it.

This sounds amazing! Anything that will decrease my waistline sounds good. I'm over 35 years old and I have noticed that my metabolism has slowed down tremendously. I work fulltime and have 4 kids at home so I tend to eat at odd hours. I'm definitely giving this a try!

The 3-hour diet sounds like something worth trying. I would like to know, does it matter if you eat a whole meal or a snack of something nutritious, at times. I am very busy, but need to lose weight. I just don't have time to cook a lot of times. But, I have heard that if a person eats 5 or 6 meals a day, the blood glucose will not be activated, which causes weight gain. Right?

It sounds easy enough and I know from being on south beach a few years ago that frequent small meals do work. I'm going to look into this diet more deeply.

The concept of keeping food in the body to prevent starvation, is a good thing. The more successful diet plans encourage small frequent feedings. I especially lke the idea of eating what one likes. It is the restriction of nourishments that cause failure. I will try this method, after I read further from the book.

I have a cousin in the medical field who told me that when you are losing weight you need to eat small frequent meals and not skip any b/c your kidneys are working extra hard when you are trying to lose weight. I notice that I always get hungry btwn breakfast and lunch b/c i have breakfast at 7:30 in the morning and lunch at 1 or 1:30. By then I'm starving and w/ a headache. I have been making sure to have carrots and apples and yogurt at work to snack on in btwn and eat lunch at 12 now and it has helped alot. Once I can get through this then I'm fine the rest of the day.
You have to eat to keep your metabolism going. If any of you have watched the Biggest Loser, Jillian said once that eating breakfast in the morning helps to rev up your metabolism. If you dont eat breakfast your metabolism is slow all day and you have no energy.
Your stomach is like an engine basically. A car cannot run w/o gas and our bodies cannot run w/o food. The same way that we lose muscle if we do not use it we also lose our metabolism if we dont use it. As long as the stomach has something to digest our metabolism keeps working. When its w/o food for a long time it slows down. So to keep the metabolism up eating every 3 hours will make sure of that b/c it takes about that time to digest your food.
He is basically trying to show us to eat balanced meals. We need much more fruits and vegetables than what we usually eat. He's basically saying eat whatever you want and add more healthy options to it to have a more balanced meal. He says you can eat fast food as well so no you do not need to be a slave in the kitchen.
IT's about learning how to eat regardless of where you are. I dont see why this is so difficult for people to understand. The snacks are not meals they are snacks. Let's say an apple w/ cheese or a yogurt with some fruit or a small salad or something. Healthy options that will keep your hunger at bay and keep your metabolism going.
I havent read his book but the concept is familiar and similar to many other well balanced weight loss plans such as Weight Watchers.

Anyone that has read Jorge's book knows that it isn't a diet. It's a way of life. You have to get in the habit of eating to live and not living to eat. Every day, you have to know that it's all about portion control. If you eat until you're stuffed, then you're overeating and will gain weight.
I've been eating Jorge's way for about 3 months now and have lost about 20lbs. It's not a plan where you will lose 5lbs a week. It's a slow loss, 1-2 lbs/week, which is the way it should be.
